Martin Samuel Schriber was born in 1825 in
Livingston Manor (formerly Rockland), Sullivan County, NY and christened
on September 20, 1825 at the Klyne Esopus Church, Esopus NY. The
baptismal record can be found in the records of the Klyne Esopus Church
#740. Martin was the second child and first son of Philip William and Polly Wright
Schriver.
There are a few points of disagreement between the Schock
and Burch works. We will defer to Susan Schock's
information. There is a reference in it that "information on
the descendants of Martin Schriber contributed by Richard 'Rick'
Schriber of Delaware. (2001)" One significant item is the
spelling of the last name. The Schock work has it as Schriber
while the Burch book indicates that it is Schriver. Martin's
parents spelled it Schriver. Since the contributor is a descendent
and spells his name Schriber, we can only assume that he was born
Schriber but somewhere along the way it was changed.
Martin was probably named after her paternal
grandfather, Martinus Schryver. It is customary in German families
to name the first son in honor of the father's father. His middle
name Samuel is probably after his mother's brother, Samuel Wright.
He was apparently a farmer his entire life. A
references from the Burch book indicate that he was a farmer, at home,
Rockland Township in 1850. Another reference indicates that in
1902, he was a farmer in Livingston Manor.
We have no information on his death.
